About Pay It Forward Wins

I was inspired to create this blog by the members of The Rotary Club of Windsor-St. Clair, and its current President, Shelly Duben.

While driving to work one day, Shelly noticed several people huddled outside The Salvation Army building, so she purchased and delivered three dozen donuts for the group. Seeing the impact that random act of kindness had on the group sparked her idea to engage all Club members in a new initiative called “Pay It Forward,” modelled after the Catherine Ryan Hyde novel and subsequent Warner Brothers movie.

In Ryan Hyde’s book and movie, a young student named Trevor conceives the idea of doing a good deed for three people who would be unable to accomplish that deed on their own. As repayment, each of the three would do the same for three others, and so on. As such, the need to help others would spread exponentially through society and create a social movement with the goal of making the world a better place.

Along these same lines, each week Shelly presents a member of our Club with $25 along with an invitation to pay it forward “their way.” Having recently received my $25, and having worked in marketing communications for the past 20 years or so, the creative guy in me took over and I put my money toward the creation of this blog. So here I am today posting this message, hoping that you, too, will be inspired to pay it forward, your way. I’ve posted a few of the stories from our Club members and will continue to do so in the future. I’d love to post your story as well. You can email me at pcharbonneau@thehcagroup.net.

And by the way, did you know that Benjamin Franklin is considered to be the first person to introduce the concept of paying it forward?
